Your email newsletters are not spam. Your clients want them.
Who wants to hear about Email Marketing on a Friday? Nobody, I hear you cry… I thought so. He he!
Anyhoo, here’s some light reading for a Friday that might connect with someone out there struggling to keep clients and get new ones onboard!
Email Lists and Email Newsletters
So here is the subject – Mailing lists and Email Newsletters! Aaaaaaarrrrghhh! I hear you scream. It’s okay, calm down. I’m used to this response.
All joking aside, the sending of email newsletters is a subject about which many people have firm preconceptions, many of them wrong, I can tell you. (The preconceptions, not the people).
What actually is spam?
The terms: unsolicited, annoying, deceptive, junk, spam, time-wasting all come to mind, and so they should as people get sick of the rubbish they are bombarded with every day in their inboxes. It’s a nightmare.
So why am I trying to tell you the wonders of email newsletters?
It’s simple really. That’s because junk mail (all of the above) is annoying and frustrating because it is mail you don’t want to receive.
Strategic Planned Email Marketing is not spam
But amongst all the nonsense, there is mail we all want. Our business emails from clients and suppliers. Then there are our interests: the bands we follow, the sports personalities, our interests and hobbies, favourite writers, the list is long and varied.
The reason we like this email is because we do not see it as junk. We see it as critical information we want and need to be informed about.
Many people do want email Newsletters
Whenever you sign up for something you love and receive an email from this source with interesting information and updates, you are glad you subscribed. It’s because these communications are not spam. And that’s the difference.
Many business owners are unsure of who would want to receive email from them. They believe they have nothing much to say and so they don’t go down that route to engage with clients. They think that managing mailing lists and sending out newsletters would be a waste of time:
– What could they possibly say in a newsletter every month?
– Will it be seen as spam?
– Would it annoy their clients?
Yet, embracing these tasks once they see it as the right strategy can transform how any business connects with their audience.
Your clients want to be informed
Your clients want to be informed. They want to know what new products or services you have. Stock lists, second-hand products, investment in new equipment, in fact, any new expertise you employ is good news for them. When they read about the different size of contracts your business handles on your case studies page, often it surprises them.
Have you ever lost a project because your client didn’t know you provided it?
It won’t be the first time a client of yours will have used another supplier because they didn’t realise you provided a particular product or service – mainly because no one in your business ever told them.
What is the purpose of Email Marketing?
Email Newsletters and keeping your audience informed is about keeping your name and your brand in front of your clients and prospects. It fills in that space of knocking on the door if you have a reduced sales team and often generates phone calls from the client when they connect with one of your news items.
The point is, quality communication with your client and prospect base consistently yields the best ROI. How? Through owning your data list and segmenting and targeting your audience effectively ensures your message reaches the right people at the right time.
