Providing Content

Introduction

When you need to provide us with content for your website you should adhere to the following guidelines.

Content includes, but is not limited to, Words, Pictures, Images, Graphics, Video, etc.

Copyright

You can only publish information on your website where you either

• own the copyright (i.e. use your own photos)
• have the express permission for your specific use from the rights holder (i.e. the person who owns the copyright)

NOTE: You CANNOT take and use random images from Google or anyone else’s website and use them without permission.

If you do this you may be liable for infringing copyright and paying substantial charges. We have seen this as high as £1,500 per single photo for a 1 year licence. You do not want that pain.

There are cynical businesses people who specialise in monitoring this kind of behaviour. They don’t politely ask you to cease and desist. They watch you using images for a period of time and then retrospectively come after you to buy a licence with evidence of your use.

DO NOT be a victim of this. Don’t think you can hide and that no one will know, even if you reprocessed the image or cropped the image in Photoshop. Believe us: they know. It is just not worth stealing intellectual property.

This applies to any content including images, graphics, animation, video, infographics, graphs, logos. Don’t steal intellectual property: it’s just the same as stealing physical property, but actually more traceable!

Get Your Own Images

Arrange to get your own images. We can help with providing photography services and arrange a photoshoot which gives you images you can use for multiple purposes. It’s a worthwhile investment.

Get Stock Images

If you are unable to provide any of your own images (even with our help) you can use Stock/Library photos. They often end up looking really obvious (you can spot them a mile off).

In this case we will ask you to view a stock library which we recommend, then ask you to select images (or make a shortlist) of images which you like or you think are most suitable. We will buy the proper licence for you and charge this as a disbursement.

Graphic Design

If you need a logo or other graphic custom design we can arrange that for you.

Video

We can arrange video services for you. Please speak to us to discuss your requirements.

Text

Do not steal (copy and paste) text from other websites either. This can suffer a similar fate as images. The copyright owner will know, as will Google, and you will suffer for stealing it.

If you are writing about your business and ultimately trying to catch someone’s attention to make an enquiry or get a sale, don’t you think it’s worth a bit of effort to describe what you do and make the sale?

This is your chance to make your business sell, so it doesn’t make sense to use someone else’s text. Make your own case and make it compelling.
